Hi,

Well, the kids are back in school now! For those with first time Kindergarteners I hope all has gone well! I remember when my son started Kindergarten, I cried my eyes out and barely took any pictures of that important day, a few, but not as many as I would of liked. Now that he is in 5th Grade and with the summers spent trying to find things to do, I normally look forward to September and back to school! Then I have some "me" time.  I hope you are all finding your "me" time and are back to scrapping all those summer outings and First Day of School Pictures!

Sonnets & Daisy D's Elements
                   By: Jennifer Keastead

The Sonnets Line by Sharon Soneff was really nice to work with. The colors that are offered in the paper and sticker lines, are just gorgeous.  They all have a really soft watercolor look, and all the colors coordinate nicely with each other. The puzzle ABC stickers are my new favorite for making titles, they just give your page a really unique and different look. For another interesting look, try alternating colors in your title. (*stickers used in the first layout are the Poetic Language stickers)

The "Life" poem used in the pink layout is by Daisy D's Elements. These inexpensive poems are a quick and easy way to add journaling to your layouts.  Just cut them into the desired shape, and to help make them stand out a bit try lightly chalking them with coordinating colors from your layout.

Designing with Photos   By: Laura Bernhard

A few years ago I would have told you to run, not walk, to your local bookstore to get a copy of this book.  Today, I don’t have to do that.  A few clicks and Kelly will have the book on its way to your door!  Go ahead, click away.  Your future photographs will thank you!

Designing with Photos is part how-to manual, part advice column and part amazing idea book.  Imagine going into a photo store and finding an enthusiastic knowledgeable scrapbooker behind the counter.  (I don’t know about you, but I have never had an opportunity to visit that store!)

Ever wonder about aperture, depth of field and shutter speed?  What film speed works best for basketball bleacher shots?  What exactly is a garage photo shoot? This book answers all those questions and more with nearly 100 fact-filled, eye-popping, enlightening pages.

Remember: The only shots you regret are the ones you didn’t take.  Start now.  (p. 56)

After covering techniques to improve your photographic skills, the book moves into a primer on photo arts.  Projects outlined include presentation portfolios, soldered glass images, image transfers (including the packing tape transfer method) and art with a scanner – all fun things to try on a cool crisp fall day.

Go ahead, click away.  You won’t regret it.

Cropping on the Run

It seems as if we were on the go every weekend this summer.  Philadelphia one weekend, Erie the next, Hershey Park the week after that with a trip to New Jersey thrown in for good measure.  With each mile traveled, the pile of photos to scrap seems to multiply.

Weekends on the go used to mean weekends without scrapping.  And to me, a weekend without scrapping is not much of a weekend.  As an experiment, I packed a small scrap kit for one of our trips in July.  It worked so well that I packed a little bit more on one of our August trips and actually completed five layouts in under two hours!  Here are some of my tips for scrapping on the go:

1) Pack lightly.  You might not be able to open your XXL in the passenger seat of the minivan.  I take a stack of pre-selected photos, my Crop-in-Style Paper Taker with coordinating paper and cardstock (not every sheet I own), a paper trimmer, journaling pen, and Hermafix tabs.  A pizza box makes a great lap desk.  I generally leave all eyelets and lumpy embellishments home.

2) Stick with a theme.  I have been working on two albums from our Disney vacation. (See August’s newsletter.)  The Bazzill Monochromatic Packs make it so easy to complete pages - the matching is done for you.  Design, trim, mat, adhere and journal.  Page done.

3) Small spaces call for small pages.  Give the 6x6 size a try.  Pages that size practically put themselves together.  Four 12x12 sheets of paper make 16 6x6 backgrounds.  That’s 16 pages in no time flat.

4) Don’t try to write a book.  Computer journal in advance, or wait until you return home.  I have been known to write small notes on pages, but lengthy hand-written journaling might have to wait until the car stops moving.

5) Square off.  Squares and rectangles will be easier to deal with than circles and ovals.  Straight edges and mats can be achieved with a simple paper trimmer, whereas other shapes will require more tools and gadgets.

6) When lost for an idea, tear it up.  Tearing adds texture without any special tools - important when you are on the highway.

If it isn’t possible to crop in the car, use the travel time to sort photos, jot down notes for journaling, read idea books and plan layouts.  The following layouts were completed in the car on one of our trips this summer.  It can be done.  Good luck and have fun!!

Design Team Pick.....

Each month a member of our Design Team will be sharing their "Pick" of the month. This month, Theresa has chosen the Karen Foster Line.

Karen Foster Design  By: Theresa Nogueira

The Karen Foster  line is one of favorites.  I found the colors she uses were hard to match up at first to some of the cardstock that I currently have but I learned that some of the Bazzill cardstock matches perfectly to her coordinating line of stickers and papers.  You can mix and match most of her papers too to find the right balance for your layout and with the  stickers, you can add as much or as little accents as you'd like.  The bold and bright are my absolute favorites.

In the layout garden girl I used Karen Foster Spring Floral paper but I also incorporated other products from other companies that matched perfectly.  I used a Deluxe Cuts watercan and some ProvoCraft  flower stickers.  I also added some conchos, and tags for accents on some celery and pink cardstock for matting.

The Home of the Brave layout I used Karen Foster Patriotic Stickers and red white and blue crackle papers.  This layout tells how my Family feels about our Country and I thought that the word stickers portray that.  I added two little tags w/ some fiber and a quick and easy layout was complete.

The Cooling Off layout was another easy layout.  I used Karen Foster Butterfly Blue Crinkle paper and Hearts Stickers. I used lime green purple and blue cardstock, cut out letters with the Coluzzle template and  there you have it..Bold and Bright!  The look of the textured crinkle added so much to the layout.

A great way to use up the extra stickers is to make tags or cards  with them.  They can be used to add to layouts or or even to add to gifts.  These took all of 10 min to create and make a wonderful accent to anything.

So with three children, trying to make 3 albums plus a Family Album, I don't have time to sit and look for a lot of things to coordinate.  This line is the best to make quick, beautiful pages that look like you took a long time to make but really only took minutes.  So if your like me with little time to scrap, this line is definitely  what your looking for.
