Scrapper of the Month
We started this with our last newsletter but wanted to send the information
again for those who did not receive our October Newsletter.
Each month we will be choosing 2 layouts from 2
Members that have been posted in our Idea Gallery for that month and those 2 Members will
be our Scrappers for the following Month.
Any layout is eligible, any
category, and at the end of the month, the two Scrappers will be chosen.
They then will receive product to design a layout or two to be added to the
Gallery in the Scrapper of the Month Category. The products sent to you (at no
charge to you) will be based on whatever theme our Design Team is working on
for that month. For instance, whatever the Team decides for November,
the Scrappers that are chosen at the end of October will receive product in
November for the Teams Theme. And so on for each month. You will then be asked to upload your
completed layouts to the New Scrappers of the Month Category.
You can submit any number of
layouts, again, there isn't a specific category or theme. It isn't a
"contest" and anyone is eligible. You can also be chosen for
Scrapper of the Month even if you have won a layout contest, and can be chosen
more than one month if you continue to add layouts to the Gallery each month.
Only those layouts submitted during the month we are in are eligible. Prior
months layouts are not included.
All we ask is that if you are
chosen, that the layouts created with the product received are loaded to the
Gallery in the Scrappers of the Month Category. If you are notified that you
have been chosen and are unable to participate, please let me know and an
alternate Scrapper will be chosen. If you have any questions, please email me.

COLOR THE WORLD
WITH LOVE and SUN FUN by Jennifer K.
Both of these layouts were created using paper
and diecut stickers from the doodlebug design line. There are so
many things I like about this line. For instance, the thickness of
the diecut stickers, the easy coordination between stickers and
paper, the muted crisp colors of both the paper and the stickers.
Although the scan does not really do this line justice, the colors
are very nice and not overwhelming. They are perfect, not too
bright, and not too dull. Another thing I did to both layouts,
which again is hard to make out in the scan, but you can add little
touches to the stickers with a white or black pen. I put white
dashes and dots on the stickers to bring them out just a bit. (Just
be sure to let them dry well before putting your page protectors
on.)
Also if you notice in the SUN FUN layout, I overlapped some stickers
onto the section where photos will eventually lie. In order to be
able to slide the photo right under the sticker, I dusted that part
of the sticker with baby powder so that it wouldn't stick. Use a
small makeup brush for this, so you have better control over what
area you don't want sticky, as the powder works instantly.
Doodlebug has always been one of my favorite lines to work with.
With so many different themes, I'm sure everyone can find something
they like. Enjoy!

SUNNY
DAY
In this layout, I used Summer Stick
its, and Summer Thoughts: Thoughts that Stick by O'Scrap.
Stick-its are great thick diecut like stickers that add a very
whimsy touch to your pages. Thoughts that Stick, are clear
stickers with quotes and titles in a variety of different style and
size fonts on one particular subject. As with the other 2
layouts, the scanned images do not do these products justice. They
are very bright and cheery. I really liked working with them. And
the Thoughts that Stick come with so many sayings on one sheet, I
have enough left over to so 3-4 more layouts!

Making Memories
Details IV
By Emily B
In these 3 layouts I used the new Making Memories
details IV line. I love using Making Memories products to add
texture, interest and a little lumpiness to my layouts! I also
love that the Making Memories metal products are made of
non-rusting metallic compounds, then coated with a preserving
lacquer that makes them archival safe. Metal embellishments are
so much fun; and it's great to know these will live happily ever
after with our precious photos!
In Love, Together, Forever I used 3 washer words
from the Wedding pack. These were very easy to stick down using
glue dots and they aren't too weighty on the page. I used twistel
through the holes in the washers for a round tag like look, then
spaced them evenly on the torn cardstock border to ground them.
In Our Family I used the gorgeous ribbon charms -
these are probably my new favorite embellishment! I love the
dressed up look they give to ribbon, and now that I've tried them
I'm having visions of using them on embellished photo mats and
tags and cards, etc. For this layout I used them very simply to
dress up my gingham ribbon on this Family Christmas Layout. I
adhered the ribbon itself to my layout but didn't use any adhesive
on the charms themselves.
In Squeaky Clean Baby I used the pastel colored
mini safety pins - these are such a fun embellishment! I chained
them together for my embellished photo mat and then created simple
photo corners by pinning through cardstock. In both cases I
pinned them to attach them to my cardstock and didn't need to use
any adhesive on the safety pins.

Scrappin' without
my computer - say it isn't so! By Mary H.
A few weeks ago, we had a power
outage. Nothing major - just some down lines from a storm. But,
I really wanted to get some pages done that day. I just couldn't
imagine pages with no computer-generated title or journaling.
Then I remembered the Making Memories Simply Stated Rub-Ons that
I'd purchased. I grabbed a few of those and my Making Memories
Date Stamp and was set to do some pages. I was amazed at how
quickly they went. I didn't have to agonize about which font to
use and I also didn't have to rely on my terrible handwriting for
my titles. Since then, I've done quite a few layouts with no
computer.

Granted, they haven't had journaling on the front, but
I took the opportunity to write some nice, mushy journaling on
the back - in my own handwriting. The Date Stamp has become a
"can't live without" item when I'm scrapbooking and I'm amazed at
all the themes that the rub-ons are available in. Now that Making
Memories has added the mini rub-ons, I may never use the
computer for my title again.

November Jackpot
By: Laura B. |
|
I really feel like I hit the jackpot this month.
1) Soccer season is over, meaning more time for scrapping. 2) I
received an entire CD (over 400 great photos) of my son’s Cub Scout
pack at Webelos camp this summer, 3) Becky Higgins has a new book out
and 4) there are so many products in stock that make scrapbooking fast
and fun! The faster I can do it, the more fun new stuff I can use!
It seems like I have a new
favorite every month, but the new Inspire2 line by Ali Edwards for Two
Busy Moms is
my new favorite. The paper is patterned on one
side with a solid coordinating color on the opposite side. Themed
tags, journal blocks and mini squares match the paper. I chose the
Courage set for this Webelos boat race layout. Take paper, add a few
photos, a tag and a brad and Voila! One amazing layout which looks
like you spent more time on it than you actually did. (My kind of
layout...)

If you haven’t tried the Bazzill monochromatic
packs yet, give one a try. You’ll thank yourself later. Here, two
sheets from the Green Mono pack teamed with the new (very cool)
Doodlebug Outdoor tokens make a fun quick layout. With the
Monochromatic packs you never have to worry about matching – Bazzill
has done it for you. The tokens are etched chips which are
reversible. One side looks like frosted glass with a subtle image. I
chose to use the reverse side with the more obvious image. I used
gold mini brads, but you could use string, fiber, jump rings, or wire
to attach the tokens to your layout.

Bazzill Papers

The Defined stickers by Making Memories add just
the right message to layouts. Here I used Journey on another Cub
Scout layout These stickers are printed on paper that almost remind
me of wedding invitations - not as heavy, but with that same silky
finish. The back of each sheet provides tips and tricks on using the
stickers including ideas for making frames and chalking and inking
them. Here I just used them “as is” with some red and blue Bazzill.
I love how the yellow Class B uniforms pop against the red and blue
backgrounds.

Becky Higgins Sketches
If you are faced with a stack of photos, I would
recommend picking up Becky’s new book. Not only are her layouts
featured throughout, but Creating Keepsakes has compiled hundreds of
layouts from scrapbookers across the U.S. and around the world. I
always like to look at the work of new and different scrapbookers and
I really appreciated the variety here.

The book is organized by the number of photos per
layout. Normally I only have a couple of good photos to scrap per
event. However, when faced with a never ending pile of vacation
photos, I pulled out the Sketches book and examined those layouts for
more than 14 photos.

Until I actually tried it, I could never have
imagined fitting more than 24 photos on a page. But here it is, up
close, an example from a page I am working on called the “Many Faces
of Disney World... all happy.” (Also notice the new Bazzill textured
trios cardstock.) I had so much fun with this that I might have to
take even more photos than I usually do!

Tip.....
Aging Cardstock
without Walnut Ink
by Theresa N.
I just love
the look of shabby chic. Although I don’t really do it yet,I want to
have the supplies handy in case I want to venture out and try it. I
was on the hunt for walnut ink but was advised by a Friend to just try
it with acrylic paints. There are so many Colors to chose from you
would never feel limited to one color. This paint Technique is
really easy and best of all, its easy to clean up. Soap and water
will do it! You also will be able to control how dark or light you
want the paper.
What you need
is...
A large
square bucket for the 12x12Paper.
Acrylic
paints, any color.
Need to be
near sink to wash away extra paint
And make sure
you have some paper towels handy
First what you
need to do is cover the bottom of the plastic bucket with
water. Be careful not to put too much water so
that it is too diluted. Then chose the color of your paint and pour
some in.
In fig 1 I chose brown. You can also choose any number of
colors that would go together well. I poured the paint in the
bucket. (Only one color.) Then I wet my cardstock under the water
making sure the whole page was wet. I also wadded up the cardstock
into a ball giving it texture. When it was creased to my liking I
flattened it out, then slowly dipped in the paper making sure I
scraped the bottom of the pan with the corners of the paper making the
edges darker. I then dipped in the rest trying to get it to most of
the empty spots on the paper. I rubbed in another color from the
bottle on the saturated cardstock here and there. I then wiped most
of the color off leaving a little smear every so often. You could
also use a wadded up paper towel and gently pat the same color of
different color paint on the places that you missed. I waited until
it was dry and took an old toothbrush dipped into back paint and
flicked the bristles toward me for a spattered look. It gives the
cardstock the aged old appearance that I was looking for.
Figure 2 is
some white tags that I had died with acrylic paints. I really like
how they came out using the same technique. I lightly brushed some
black paint on the edges with a paper towel.
This is a very
economical way to give your papers that "old" appearance. Acrylic
paints are
about .79 cents and come in so many colors. Your papers will get some
pizzazz once you’ve played with this technique. Think outside of the
box and your let imagination run! |

Design Team Pick.....
Each month a member
of our Design Team will be sharing their "Pick" of the month. This month,
Theresa has
chosen Doodlebug Designs.
I have lots of stickers and paper but no
one makes the boldest colors other than Doodlebug. I love to add colorful and
bright stickers to my layouts
And I found some of the coolest in the new
Doodlebug Line.
In layout number 1, I love the
stripes that really give the layout a ballgame feel. The
stickers are what makes the pictures “pop”. I did feel like
the striped paper was very overwhelming so I chose to just rip it down
the sides.
In layout 2, I wanted to
find coordinating cardstock which wasn’t a problem with this striped
paper. It has so many colors to chose from which made it easy. I
felt that using whole sheets would take away from the layout so I tore
some for the two edges and the midsection added some fibers and
birthday Doodlebug stickers. Also attached a personal note to my
daughter on her 4th birthday and added ribbon and a charm
with the date on it.
In
layout 3, I wanted lots
of bright colors to add excitement. I still thought the paper was a
bit too busy and would clash if used the whole sheet so again I tore
it then added the colored cardstock and Doodlebug stickers. I used
some of the word stickers into the small paragraph to add interest and
color.
On card number 1 I used leftover cake
sticker from my daughters birthday layout and green cardstock for a
quick and easy birthday card.
Card 2 I had some left over
paper and double matted a present sticker and stamped “happy Birthday”
on some vellum then added two snaps to hold it on.
As you can see these layouts have tons of
color and excitement added to them with a little help from Doodlebug.
Don’t forget to ck out their new products
here at Tomorrows Memories.
