Happy March!! The weather here is actually getting warm enough
to wear light jackets and we are looking forward to Spring arriving. After the
cold snowy winter the nice weather is something to look forward to and can't
get here soon enough! (I am not a cold weather person!)
My Birthday was on Leap Year, and I decided to do some
research on the Leap Year Customs and how it came about. After all these
years, I had never really thought much about why there is a leap year, or what
customs may be celebrated on that day. I found a lot of information that
I did not know and have a page or two planned for my sons scrapbook about my
birthday, or lack of a birthday as he says.
In doing research on Leap Year, I also found some "silly holidays and
customs" which I thought were interesting and some would make great Scrapbook
Pages. A few I found were:
Learn What your Name Means Day, 3/10
Memory Day 3/21
As Young As you Feel Day 3/22
and my favorite: Make up your own Holiday Day on 3/26
These events and many more would be great Scrapbook subjects,
something "different" to add to your Albums or even for creating a small
themed silly holiday album. For more silly holidays and customs, just
searching online will bring you to loads of sites that have many listed. What
a fun way to create some unique pages about "unknown", or less known Holidays
and Customs. I have a list for myself and will be creating a few layouts
of my favorite "silly holidays", even if I have to "stage" the event to get
the pictures for the layout!

Other News .....
More Virus news. I have noticed that I am receiving emails from myself, yes,
from myself that I have not sent. So I am guessing some of you may have received
them from me as well. These emails are telling you your account may be
limited, or terminated, or needs to be updated by clicking a link in the email
which also includes a password. Please DO NOT open this email, or follow
the link, whether it is from me or another person. This is a virus that has the
potential to do some damage to your computers. Any emails that you
receive, with attachments or asking for personal information, that you are not
sure of, please delete, or email the person sending them before you open any
attachments or respond in any way. There are so many viruses going around
these days.
As
a reminder, I want to reassure you all that your names, email address, home
addresses, etc. are perfectly safe with me. I have never, nor do I ever intend
to, sell any personal information to anyone, nor do I make it available for
anyone to access. Be sure to keep your anti virus software up to date!

Clearance!!
The clearance section has been added to and there are so many
things to choose from. I have almost run out of room here and need to
"clean house". Now is the time to stock up for RAK's, Secret Pal Swaps,
gifts, etc.. It is going fast!
Temporary Closing this weekend:
I will be out of town
this weekend. Because there are still a few "glitches" in the shopping cart, I
have someone who will be looking into it over the weekend and trying to find
the corrupt file that is causing the glitch. This needs to be done with
the cart shut down. Since I will not be here, I decided this weekend was
a good time to have them do the work and have it done when I return late
Sunday night (crossing my fingers). So, the cart will shut down on
Friday afternoon, and if all things go well, it will be back online Sunday
night. My apologies, I hate shutting down but unfortunately the work
that needs to be done cannot be done if the cart is active.

Below, Jennifer K., Emily
B., Mary H. and Sonda T., share their layouts and thoughts on Tag
Alongs, Pebbles Real Life Stickers, Shotz Epoxy Words, Slide Mounts,
Bazzill Cardstock, Overlays and KI Memories.

Emily B.:
Deluxe Cuts Tag Alongs

The new series of
Deluxe Cuts Tag Alongs are here and they will really help you
put together quick and easy layouts. These cardstock weight
stickers are so easy to work with - you can mat them on
cardstock to add another layer to them, punch out the holes in
the tags to string them through fibers, ink the edges to add
more depth or just add them to your page as is. They are super
easy to match up to bazzill cardstocks so there are no worries
about tying together the colors on your layout. In the layout "Bathtime"
I used a tag as both an embellishment and my title. I punched
out the hole of the tag to tie on some rick rack, and then added
that same rick rack to my journaling block. These make a great
embellishment to your layout without being bulky.

Shotz Epoxy Wordz

I hadn't tried
these prior to making this layout and I was surprised at how
easy these were to use. These adhesive backed stickers are
actually flexible - they aren't a hard plastic. This worked
out really well for on my layout "Henry by the Numbers"
because one of the numbers I wanted to use had a word with it,
that didn't go with the theme of my layout. But since these
are flexible they are easy to cut through with a pair of good
scissors. I easily cut the word off and went ahead using just
the number portion of the sticker. These are very lightweight
on the page and add very little bulk.

Pebbles
Real Life Cardstock Stickers
Pre-made stickers and embellishments are getting better and
better. These new cardstock stickers from Pebbles are very
appealing and easy to use on the page. On the layout Hugs and
Love I used a variety of stickers to form my title and
enhancements on the page. Layering the stickers on to each
other - as I did using elements from the Love Bits & Pieces sticker
sheet, adds more dimension and personalization to your layout.
There are no white edges on these stickers - when they come
off the background, they look great and are ready to use for a
real life embellished look without any bulk; and very little
effort.

Sonda T.:
*Two Hearts One Love*

Are you and your
spouse frequently the ones behind the camera lens? Over the
holidays I had my Dad take several pictures of just my
husband and I. Ask someone to take pictures of just the TWO
of you. They will be ones you’ll cherish for all times!
For my "Two Hearts
One Love" layout I chose to print the focal photo in color
and accent it with another very small black & white photo
“peeking” thru a slide mount. These come in several colors,
one that is sure to match your layout theme. I used several
sheets of wonderful papers including, “Leapfrog” from the
green monochromatic Bazzill pack, Sonnets Dark Damask, and
Karen Foster’s Sage Crackle. For added elements I adhered
the Making Memories gold letter pebbles as part of the title
and wrapped the text ribbon vertically. If you want to add
some age to your layout, a simple and easy way is to just
rub some ink all around the edges.
I’m also a real
BIG fan of hidden journaling. I tend to get a little more
“personal” when the journaling is hidden and written to or
about the person for whom I’m creating the layout. Try
something different like the library card and pocket I used
here. Type, print or handwrite your journaling on the card,
slip it in the pocket, and VOILA!
As an added bonus,
that metal clip holding the picture to the ribbon…well,
that’s off of my husband’s shirt (you know, when it comes
from the department store folded all nice and neat). Don’t
be afraid to use things you would normally “throw away” on
your layout. Chances are they will add that extra pizzazz
you’ve been longing for.
*2 Very
Special Gifts*
February will always be one of my favorite months of the
year. Not only is it the month my husband and I got engaged
but it’s also the month our daughter was born. Yep, you
guessed it, on Valentine’s Day! Now that Valentine’s Day
has passed, why not scrap a layout of your loved ones with
the photos you took and gifts you received.
I created my “2 Very Special Gifts” layout using a collage
“Z” style. The new “Pebbles Real Life Cardstock Stickers”
made it really easy to add accents where I wanted! I like
to think about what meaning an accent could have before
placing it on my layout. For instance, on the bottom right
is a square sticker. The large square represents my
husband, the smaller square me, and the heart my daughter.
The string that wraps all around it represents “family.”
Next time you use an accent, think about what it could
represent for you. For my journaling, I matted the large
tag sticker and placed a mini red brad thru the hole. It
swings or twists out to reveal my hidden journaling
underneath. The small loop and button holds it in place.
No matter which sticker you decide to use, there’s sure to
be one that compliments your layouts perfectly!

of Hidden Journaling on Sonda's layout:

Jen. K.:
Jolly Old Saint
Nicholas / Lover Never Ends
In these 2 layouts
I used the new clear overlays by Artistic Expressions. These
overlays are great to showcase that one special photo, or to
use as an opening title page. What I like most about them, is
how clear they are. They don't take away from your pictures at
all, and at the same time act as a page protector. They are
also very easy to use, and can be adhered many ways such as
eyelets, buttons, brads and my preference spray adhesive.
I also used Bazzill cardstock in both layouts, and Making
Memories Metal embellishments

Love & Kisses /
Kissing Cousins
In these 2
layouts, I used the new line by
Pebbles called Real Life
Stickers. These cardstock stickers are nice and thick and very
realistic. The nice thing about these stickers is they look so
real that can have the look of a bumpy page without the actual
bumpy embellishments. I incorporated matching Bazzill
cardstock in the Kissing Cousins page, and added real twine to
match the twine in the stickers. Another plus, is you get so
many stickers on one sheet, so you can easily make a matching
2 page layout.
*Note: We have removed
the "kissing cousins" layout as this is being published in a
magazine. Congrats Jen!
Mary H.:
It's not very
often that I can pickup and idea book and reference it
immediately in order to create great looking layouts. With
the first idea book from KI Memories, I'm able to do just
that. The KI Memories Little Book of Big Ideas is small (only
about 7" x 9") and yet proves that big things come in little
packages. It is ring-binder style, as KI Memories has said
they are going to be publishing additional pages that will be
easily added to the binder.
It is nicely organized into sections for Patterned Paper, Blox,
Icicles, etc. and the layouts are in many different styles.
Some are clean, linear layouts, some are distressed, some have
stitching, while others show how multiple patterned papers can
be used on the same layout. I believe that anyone can pick up
this book and find layouts that fit their personal style.
Another bonus is the way that each layout references ideas
from the other sections, making it easy to see how to use
patterned paper and icicles on the same layout like I did on
"One Boy, One Girl" or the patterned paper with Mod Blox like
the "First Kiss" layout.
The Little Book of Big Ideas is a definite must-have for any
scrapper's library.
