Hi ,

Happy July!! Here's hoping this newsletter finds you and your family well and enjoying the summer months! Summer is a time to take it easy, spend time with family and friends, swim, have barbeques, go to the park, go on vacation, and of course take loads of pictures!
In honor of summer, this month's article and layouts by Laura Bernhard share ways to use the Deluxe Cuts Templates to scrap your favorite summer (and other) photos.

Vacation Note: We will be going on vacation in August. We are off to Disney and I cannot wait! Disney is my favorite vacation spot! And I have hundreds and hundreds of photos to prove it!! (only 2 trips in Scrapbooks, but hey, someday I'll get caught up....??)

At that time, the site will be open but orders will not be able to be placed.  You can browse, add items to your wish list and create saved baskets for when we return, but you will not be able to checkout.  I apologize in advance for any inconvenience.

The site will be closed from August 15th through Sept. 2nd. We will re-open for orders on Sept. 3rd.

Coupon/Specials .....

Shotz Thoughtz    By: Kristina Duttlinger

I am not normally a sticker person at all, so these were a challenge for me - and all I can say is WOW!  Printed in black and gray tones they work for almost any color scheme and it's hard to tell that they are stickers. I will be using lots more of these for quick and simple layouts. They also could be used over shotz tags and other shotz products since they have a clear background.

PoemStones   By Kristina Duttlinger

These stickers are really neat, they remind me of the puffy stickers from my childhood but a little stiffer!  These again are great for simpler pages - Each one has a different word and color theme to it and are very detailed! These would be great to use in the middle of journaling to highlight words, in this example I used them to describe traits I am already seeing in my daughter.  For the price you get a lot in a package and they can be used on many layouts!!!  I also used the new Bazzill cardstock that is textured on one side and smooth on the other - what cool cardstock! It's great for when you want a texture it gives just the right amount of a printed look without the boldness of printed paper!

Sonnets Line  By: Mary Hogue

It seems like everyday a new, exciting product line comes out to fall in love with.  The Sonnets line from Creative Imaginations is certainly a line to love.  Upon getting my order, I was impressed with how well everything coordinates.  I’m determined to get my wedding album done, yet find that I’d much rather scrap photos of my daughter.  The Sonnets line allowed me to make quick work of a photo I love and put another page in the wedding album.  The alphabet stickers provided me with a very effective title, while the tags, poemstones, and wax seals provided me with the lumpy, bumpy look I crave.

And oh the variety!!!!  The wax seals come in themes ranging from “Sea” (perfect for those summer beach photos) to “Swirl”, which went perfectly on a “Blue’s Clues” page.  The poemstones are available as both alphabets and words.  And the metal-rimmed tags come in more shapes than I could dream of.  If you haven’t checked out the Sonnets/Sharon Soneff line from Creative Imaginations, you’re truly missing out on a line to love!

Summer Fun with Deluxe Cuts   By: Laura Bernhard

Summer... time for family outings, hikes in the woods, long lazy days at the beach and all-star baseball games.  Grab your camera and head out for some great Outdoor Fun photo ops.  When you head back inside to scrap, you’ll be ready for some Indoor Fun with the new color-blocking and tag templates from Deluxe Cuts.

Color Blocking

The Deluxe Cuts color blocking templates help you fit as many as XX photos and embellishments on one page.  They work great with photos of all sizes, and are especially handy to use with photos from the P.Z. era.  (That’s pre-zoom lens.)  Choose the photos you want to use, pick out cardstock or patterned paper that coordinates and few embellishments for accent and you are ready to roll.

Time Saving Method: It can be quite tedious to measure and cut the photos to the appropriate sizes.  I find it easiest to place the photos I want to use on the page underneath the template openings.  Using a photo pencil, I trace inside the openings on top of each photo so I can quickly trim it to the appropriate size.  Once I have all the photos trimmed, I adhere them to the page and add the accents I have chosen.  The pages can be as simple, or as elaborate as you make them.

In the Ocean City layout that follows, the small openings of Template 15-B seemed perfectly suited for a little twine and miniature sea shells.

Pre-made accents also work really well and are a simple way to add texture and depth to your layouts.  In Outdoor Fun at Shingletown Gap, the Nature Walk Mini-Fresh Cuts and the new Shaped Clips from Making Memories add accents to this very easy layout using an 8 ½ x11 template. This template is especially easy since two of the openings are 4x6 inches and no trimming is required!

Each template can be rotated and flipped to create eight different page variations.  For more ideas, you can check out the Color Blocking Idea Book  or visit the Color Blocking forum in the Idea Gallery.

Tag Templates

My new favorite toys have to be the new Tag Templates, also from Deluxe Cuts.  These templates allow you to trace and cut as many as eight different shaped tags in four different sizes.  That’s 40 possibilities for $6.99!

In The Mall, Tag Template 1 was used to create star tag accents which fit nicely inside the openings in Color Blocking Template 12B.  In Utah Olympic Park, Tag Template 1 was used to make the photo tag cluster.

If you are looking for a real treat, check out Tagging Along, the Deluxe Cuts idea book companion to its tag templates.  The book features layouts from artist Katherine Brooks and the very talented members of the Deluxe Cuts design team with text by Deluxe Cuts owners (and sisters) Amanda McLaws and Jolleen Hansen.  Ideas for tags included are titles, photos, journaling, borders, accents, shakers, cards, gift tags, place cards and composition books.  The book is chock full of creative ideas and makes great pool-side reading!

Design Team Pick.....

Each month a member of our Design Team will be sharing their "Pick" of the month. This month, Lynn has chosen the KI Memories Line.

KI Memories   By: Lynn Beier

I must confess that along with my severe eyelet addiction, I am a complusive patterened paper junkie!  When I first saw the KI papers, I was in "LOVE,"  I needed every color in every possible pattern!  When I want a fun trendy retro feel, I reach for the KI papers for a "HOT" look.  Finished layouts can range from a fun whimsical feel to a soft beautiful look.  With its bold yet soft colors, summers a great time to capture the look of these dreamy papers!  Journaling on vellum looks great attached with eyelets or ribbons, allowing a faintness of the pattern to show through.  When you break out your camera the rest of the summer, remember the KI papers look great with splashing water, popsicles, picnics and pretty little girls in pink, there's also a great blue for shirtless boys in overalls!  So grab the cameras and enjoy making memories the rest of the summer, time is ticking until we will be taking our mittens on and off to take our sledding and snowball photos!  Also don't forget to try the coordinating circle, blox, and frame cut outs, they too are wonderful!!
