Christmas Tags/The Spirit of Christmas/Chance of Flurries By Jen K.

For the set of tags, and The Spirit of Christmas layout, I used the new Daisy D's Elements Believe stickers. These are nice thick cardstock stickers with a distressed country look. Both the tags and the Christmas layout were made using just 1 sheet of stickers, and I still have some left over, so you get a lot of product for your money. To compliment the distressed look of the stickers, I layered them on plain cardstock and stained them using Scraps of Time Walnut Ink. I've also done the same thing for the photo mats, and the tags.

For the Chance of Flurries layout, I  used Daisy D's Let it Snow Elements stickers. For a less distressed look, I used chalk to lightly soften the page instead of the walnut ink. I complimented the stickers by mounting my photos with matching cardstock, and sprinkled Making Memories pewter snowflakes over the page. Lastly I titled the page using a quote from the celebrations Quote Stacks. I adhered this to the cardstock with adhesive spray, or if you like more embellishments, you can use brads or eyelet's.

A New Baby/Oceanside

I really love these new transparent overlays that have recently come out by Artistic Expressions, and Creative Imaginations. These overlays turn a quick simple page into one that looks like it took you hours to compete. Everything is all laid out for you, just line up your pictures, and place the overlay down, and your done! Couldn't be easier. I scanned my layout before and after the overlay to show the big difference this quick and easy accent can make in you albums. For an added touch I added a charm and some buttons on top of the finished layout. To adhere the overlay the package directions say you can use eyelet's, brads, or glue dots. I used my 3M spray adhesive, and sprayed just around the edges. I did this by making a template about 1 inch smaller then my actual layout, and placed it over the back side of the overlay and sprayed. As you can see from the scan the adhesive is practically invisible.

*NOTE: We have removed the images for "oceanside" as Jen is having this layout published. Congrats to Jen K!

Printed Transparencies by Emily B.

Printed transparencies add a beautiful and fast touch to your layouts.  Using them can be as simple as adhering the layout to your background paper and adding photos on top.  In the layout "Full of Promise" I made a colorblocked background using the Karen Foster wedding collage and sage crackle printed papers.  After layering the transparency on top of my background, I simply added an embellished matted photo and on top for a quick beautiful layout.

For a more customized look remember you can cut the transparencies apart to make them do what you want them to do.  In  the layout "Henry" I cut apart the Karen Russell Narratives Baby transparent sheet so that I could use the text background as part of my photo mat instead of the entire background.  I kept the side bar of the transparency intact and placed my 3 smaller square photo behind the transparency so that the words in the squares would show throw on my photos.

Faux Wax Seals

Faux Wax Seals are a fun decorative accent that adds a special touch to your card or scrapping project.  In the layout "Full of Promise" I placed a faux wax seal on my embellished photo mat to add interest and draw attention to the photo.  In the card, "True Love" I made the faux wax seal my focal point by placing it front and center over some ribbon and torn patterned paper.  I then added the making memories rub on words True Love in the corner.  These embellishments are easy to adhere either with the adhesive on the back or with glue dots.  The adhesive on the back of them is very strong though, so I recommend being confident of your placement before adhering it to your layout.  A tip for deciding placement:  Cut apart the four different seals that come together on one card.  Trim around each seal without removing it from the backing.  Then you can place it in different locations on your layout to get a feel for where you want it, before you  have to commit it permanently to your layout.

Quotes/Journaling by Mary H.

After reading "Scrapbooking Life's Little Treasures" by Rebecca Sower, I had a huge case of scrapper's block.  I just couldn't seem to write the heartfelt journaling that she did and I was disappointed in myself.  I was finally able to scrap again when I discovered quotes.  It seemed that no matter the subject, I was able to find a quote or poem that fit.  That was about 1 1/2 years ago and although the heartfelt journaling comes a little easier now, I still find myself turning to quotes when I have a photo that I like, but just don't know what to say about it.

Turning to quotes is even easier now that there are so many companies that make quote stickers and vellum sayings.  The Shotz Thoughtz that I used in my Baby Face layout were perfect.  As with any new baby, there are a ton of photos and sometimes I have nothing else to say but "Boy is he ever cute".  I can't write that on every layout so I went looking for an appropriate quote.   The Shotz Thoughtz had a coordinating title and quote that made finishing this layout very simple.   Many other companies sell products using quotes.   I love the Thoughts that Stick by O'Scrap and the Teri Martin Quotes are colorful and artistic.  No matter what the subject and your individual scrapping style, there is a company with quote embellishments that wil make finishing layouts easy.

Transparencies by Laura B.

Ok, I'll admit it.  I'm the one who melted the transparency in the office laser printer.  My colleague found a stash of transparencies in her desk (no box, no directions) and we sent one through just to try it.  Oops - it was an inkjet transparency, not for laser printers.  We thought we were never going to get it unwrapped from the drum it melted around!  After that, I've been a little hesitant to try transparencies again.

When I saw the Narratives by Karen Russell and the Artistic Expressions Overlays I knew it was time to try again.  These transparencies are pre-printed (no melting!.)  You can use them as is, or you can trim them in whatever configuration you'd like.  Use them over top photos, or underneath.  The options are endless.

I used the Narratives Love sheet with some photos of my husband and I that were taken the day before our wedding.  The pink strip on the bottom is actually trimmed from a sheet of SEI paper, the page is mounted on the lightest shade in the Bazzill red monochromatic pack and everything is held together by pink staples.  I was having a hard time placing the photos on the page with the sheet in its original form so I ended up cutting it in two strips.  The pink vellum envelope trimmed with the Making Memories heart clip holds a little note.

Pure Girl was pure fun!  My mother-in-law asked me if I actually let my daughter go to preschool "looking like that?"  Yes, I did.  She not only went looking like that, she came home at 5 p.m. looking like that.  Pure girl.

I used the Pure Girl Artistic Expressions overlay with shades of pink from the Bazzill red monochromatic pack.  Again, I trimmed the overlay slightly to bring the words to the center of the page instead of the far left.  I found that the words look best over lighter paper or photos with lighter backgrounds.  You can use spray adhesive, carefully placed mini glue dots (behind the printed parts), brads, eyelets, or staples to adhere these overlays to your layouts.

Tag Alongs by Laura B.

I was inspired by this Series 2 of Tag Alongs.  Over the Christmas holiday I realized that the last time I was the focus of an album I was a teenager!  The About Me set helped me on my way.

Used as titles, each element provides the spark of creativity needed to document your life now (not then.)  I used a 6x6 album, the Bazzill brown monochromatic pack and some K & Co. patterned paper I won at a crop about a year ago.  I decided to handwrite all my journaling with a silver gel pen and not stress about it.  It was a very "freeing" experience and one that I would highly recommend.

Design Team Pick.....

Each month a member of our Design Team will be sharing their "Pick" of the month. This month, Beth J. shares layouts using different Fonts.

The joy of FONTS!

I thought about my layouts, and what I seemed to use most often, other then photos and cardstock of course was fonts!  I LOVE them! I over 2,000!  I know this only because my husband told me he stopped keeping track at 2,000 and the letter S!

I think they add just that perfect something to a layout, tag, or card!!  They can be printed right on the cardstock, or vellum, or even printed in reverse and hand cut, even mix and match them to add that perfect touch to your layout or any craft project!

Some of my favorite font programs are by Creating Keepsakes.  You can also purchase them online or even find them for free.
