Making Memories By:
Jennifer Keastead
I really love the Making Memories Details series of product. With
their gorgeous brushed pewter finish, my first thought was they
would only go good with black & white photos, but as you can see
from my layouts, I've been using them with my color photos also,
even more so then with B&W. The eyelet word plaques are definately
my new favorite item.
I used the verse "Home is where your story
begins" from the Home pack, for our sons adoption page. (first
layout) You can find
a wide variety of beautiful verses to use. Both the eyelet shapes,
and the eyelet words were very easy to use, give your pages a rich
look and lay nice and flat.
The charmed plaques and small frames
also lie flat, and can easily be attached with scrapbook safe glue
for a strong hold. The best part about this line of products, is
they all coordinate with each other, so you can mix and match them
all. (layout 2)
Two other products I really enjoyed working with were the shaped
clips, and the stitched tin tiles. As you can see in the winter
layout I use the S shaped swirl clips to "stitch" my page
together. And for the tags, I punched a small hole in the center of
the smallest tin tile so I could thread the fibers threw the top.
Using the same fiber I stitched the corners of the larger tin tiles
to accent them just a bit. These tiles have endless possibilities,
you can stitch all around them, you can stitch them right onto
cardstock, you can punch shapes through them, you can even emboss
your own designs on them.
If you're into embellishments as much as I
am, the variety in Making Memories Details line will keep you busy
scrapping for a long time.

Scrapping Disney
By: Laura Bernhard
Walt Disney World.... a photo
opportunity at every turn. And, if you’re like me, you will return from a trip
to Disney with a pile or two of photos to scrap. I thought I was being pretty
sensible at the time, but now that more than 500 prints are staring me in the
face I realize that I’ve got some work to do... and fast... my husband is
talking about making a return trip next year!
Bazzill Monochromatic Packs take all
guesswork out of color selection and help you plow through piles of photos
without panic. I chose the Orange Monochromatic Pack and plan to use it
throughout our Disney album. If you haven’t tried Bazzill, you are in for a
real treat. The papers are nice and thick with a tiny woven texture on one
side. They also have the most delicious names, like Peach, Apricot and
Cantaloupe.

My new favorite trick is to print my
digital photos in wallet size using the Microsoft Printing Wizard. Select nine
photos you want to print and choose wallets as the size. In a matter of minutes
you have nine perfectly sized photos to use as accents, or to fill up an entire
page. In World Views, three stripes serve to highlight the rows of photos. The
title is printed with a computer font Tristan, downloaded from the Internet at
http://www.disneyexperience.com/fonts.htm is the same
font used in Toon Town. Other fonts are available for the Walt Disney Script,
Epcot, and many of the lands.

In our Race to Dumbo page, all five
of the pack’s colors are used. The journaling reads: “Do not stop for food. Do
not stop for Mickey. Do not stop for Space Mountain. If you want to ride Dumbo
without a wait, you have to get there first. We did.”

When your short on ideas, or even
struggling with scrapper’s block, try some 6 x 6 layouts. They’re fun,
economical (you can make four 6 x 6 backgrounds with one sheet of 12 x 12 paper)
and most importantly, they’re fast! These papers from KI Memories are terrific
and are ideally suited to use with metal-rimmed square tags and shaped clips
from Making Memories. You’ll notice I have included more wallet sized photos
here. The title page features a Making Memories tag I ran through my printer.

If you can’t find an album you like
and don’t feel like springing for the official Disney album (available in gift
shops all over the park,) you can make your own with some decoupage medium and
all the maps and memorabilia you collect along the way. A Making Memories
Charmed Plaque is a nice addition to the otherwise flat cover..

This is also a great project to work
on as a family. As I learned this week, 3-year-olds are really into decoupage!
Have fun Kelly and all other Disney visitors this year. When you have a chance,
post your layouts in the Idea Gallery. (*We have a
Theme Park Category which is perfect for your
Disney or other "theme park" layouts.)
Design Team Pick.....

If you are anything like me, you’ve
taken so many photos that you feel as though you may never get
caught up. Sometimes with so many pictures to scrap, you just want
to get something done in one sitting and feel like you’re getting
somewhere. That’s why the first time I saw the Snip-It’s line I fell
in love. The stickers are so realistic looking saving you all the
cutting of paper and stitching of buttons. They also have
coordinating paper, border stickers and tag sets. They offer
everything you need to make great layouts in a short amount of time.
The first example is of pictures I took 2 years
ago and have never been able to scrap. I have so many pool pictures
that I never knew what to do with them. These were of my son’s first
time there and I wanted it to be special. I really love the fact
that the stickers come with a title block and lots great extras. I
even carried over the flat top eyelet theme to the photo mats to
bring it all together. The best part is you put your pictures down
and fill in the holes with the extra stickers that come with the
title block.

(Clicking each layout will show larger views)
In the second example I also used the really cute
tags that matched my stickers. These were also pictures that had
been plaguing me for three years, I wanted it to look cute, but not
cutesy. I just love the buttons and the paper-pieced look without
all the work. This layout also took less than an hour. So if you are
looking for a way to get a few layouts done quickly, but looking
like you spent hours on it, just grab some Snip-its and get scrappin’.
