Hi,

Spring is in the Air-at least that is what the weather people are telling us, and here it is still cold enough to wear coats. (we have had a few nice Spring days, but not many).  So for those of you with the nice warm Spring Weather-Enjoy!! Get outside, take lots of pictures, work on your gardens, etc. It is such a nice time of year, not to hot, not to cold.

Below,  Jennifer K., Emily B., Mary H. and Laura B., share their layouts and thoughts on Bazzill Cardstock, Simply Stated RubOns, Bazzill Idea Book, Making Memories Woven Labels, and Scrappy Cat Creations.

Emily B.:

Bazzill Cardstock

Bazzill released 30 yummy new colors in the awesome monochromatic pack texture this spring and Tomorrow's Memories has all of them available by the sheet.  The monochromatic trios are great for matching color.  With all the different colors available it's easy to find just the right shade to match pictures or to patterned paper.  In the layout Fall I dug into my Bazzill stash in search of the perfect green.  I wanted to match the color of grass in the photos exactly and I had no trouble finding it in Bazzill's extensive color selection.  The monochromatic trio concept is also perfect for helping you choose colors.  In the layout Precious Treasure color selection was a snap - I chose the light, medium, and darkest value of one trio and built my layout from there.

Simply Stated, Simply FUN!

Making Memories Simply Stated rub-ons allow you to put lettering anywhere you want to – on almost any surface and even white on dark backgrounds.  I've been having so much fun with these I might never want to use my printer again!

In my first layout [Sam] I added words to a vellum envelope, a tag and a microscope slide.  I borrowed a great idea from Beyond Attachments and cut up some of the words and used the individual letters to form the word Sam.

I used the same Simply Stated Expressions sheet on my [Create Yourself] layout, again borrowing that great idea from Beyond Attachments to add my daughter's name.  The rub-ons look great on all three surfaces in the upper right - vellum, patterned paper and Bazzill textured cardstock.

In response to scrapbookers who wanted to make their own words (!) Making Memories recently released alphabet sets.  Each set contains uppercase, lowercase, numbers and punctuation.  The small white trademark set used in [One Fine Day] contains 613 characters – enough to make plenty of words!!  The white rub-ons really pop off dark pages.

Using Patterned Paper

I love patterned paper and use it on almost every layout.  Sometimes I have to challenge myself to do something with it other than mat photos or tear it in half and adhere it to a cardstock background.  I admit that I had heard about sanding paper, but that I hadn't tried it.  I've inked the edges of cardstock and journaling blocks, but I'd never inked patterned paper and I have to say that I generally don't crumple things.

I recently had the opportunity to attend Creating Keepsakes University in Nashville.  In addition to having a great time, I accepted some new challenges.  In [What I Learned on My Vacation a.k.a. Crumple, Ink and Fold] I demonstrated some of the techniques I tried at CKU.  Next time you are faced with a flat sheet of patterned paper, you might want to consider one or all of the following simple techniques.

Crumple – Wad your paper up in a nice tight ball and then flatten it out again.  This is an easy way to add dimension without bulk.

Ink – Take an ink pad and run it around the edge of your photo mat, journaling block or entire page.  You can add dark ink or ink that is similar in color to the paper itself [as I did in One Fine Day].  Depending on the ink color, you can soften or punch up the impact the patterned paper adds to your page.

Sand – Find a sheet of sandpaper and let her rip.  This works especially well on paper and cardstock with a white core and adds a shabby, distressed look to your page.

Bazzill Color Idea Book

These 3 layouts were taken from Bazzill's new idea book. If you like Bazzill paper, then this idea book is for you. These layouts are just a few of the over 250 ideas this book has using Bazzill's monochromatic paper line, and other scrapbooking products. Eight very talented ladies contributed to this book, and it is a great edition to add to your idea book collection.

Stinky Dirty Boys

I love these new woven labels by Making Memories. They are very detailed and feel and look just like clothing labels. Each label has self adhesive backing, which is VERY sticky, so be sure you know where it's going before applying, because it may be difficult to remove once placed down. The colors in this boy collection are really nice and will go great with muted browns, greens and yellows. This is fun new line, I can't wait to get the rest of them.

A Day Out With Nan

In this 2 page layout, I used the new paper line from Scrappycat Creations. (Shopping Chic) These papers are very bright and cheerful, excellent for spring, girl or Easter layouts. All the Scrappycat papers are double sided which makes for easy matching on 2 page spreads. I also used the new long awaited Simply Stated alphabet rub ons by Making Memories. The font used in this layout is trademark.  These letters let you customize titles and journaling for a clean straight look. They come in different fonts, and 2 different colors. And if you run out of any letters, you can use your imagination and substitute some letters with others. (n for u, u for n, a for e (just cut off the tip) h for n, d for p) and so on. Have fun with these great new letters.

Scrappy Cat Creations

Scrappy Cat Creations is a new scrapbooking company who has introduced Stamp Effects as their first line.  The Stamp Effects line takes its inspiration from the stamping industry and lemme tell ya, this line is so much fun to play with.

The paper looks as though it has been stamped and some of the papers, including my favorite, Dancing Design, look as though acrylic paint has been applied to it.  The colors range from bright and fun in the Tangerine series to pretty and pastel in the Dancing series.  The colors and designs are versatile enough to be used for boy or girl pages.

I found the cardstock stickers to be easy to use and they really add a distinct touch to the pages I used them on.  They actually feel textured, as though an image had been stamped and embossed.

In "Softball Sundays" I used Tangerine Twilight paper with the Tangerine Cardstock Stickers with Making Memories Simply Stated alphabet rub-ons.  "It's Bathtime" uses the Dancing Design papers with the Dancing Cardstock Stickers, Bazzill cardstock, and alphabet stamps by Ma Vinci.  These pages came together so quickly and the beautiful paper means less embellishments are necessary.

If you're like me and thrilled that color has returned to scrapbooking, you definitely need to check out the new Stamp Effects line by Scrappy Cat Creations
